New Zealand is a UN member state and implements UN sanctions via the United Nations Act 1946. New Zealand imposes autonomous sanctions and export restrictions on Russia and Belarus via the Russia Sanctions Act 2022 and Export Controls (Export Prohibition to Specified Places) Notice 2022 (No 2). A 35% import tariff applies to goods of Russian origin imported into New Zealand. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) is the national competent authority for sanctions in New Zealand.
