UN sanctions on Yugoslavia were first introduced in May 1992, in response to Yugoslavia’s failure to implement a UN resolution calling for it to end internal conflict and respect a ceasefire agreement signed in April 1992. The sanctions have since been lifted, and Yugoslavia broken up into smaller states.
